GINO - May '15

This boy was rescued as a result of searching for another dog to rescue.  I was on a mission to find a female, emanciated brown dog, but on searching came across this one.   Because the email in terms of asking for help was from a lady by the name of Gina, I decided to call this boy GINO.  He was found 23 kms out of Ermioni, on the coastal road, by a small church on the beach.  He was such a friendly dog, but in a very bad way and really couldn't be put back.  He had some old dirty dishes placed next to the church, that suggested that at some point he was being fed, but by whom? and how often?  A collar and lead were put on him quite easily.  He was so obedient and got into the car with us, as if this was just an everyday excursion.  GINO was taken directly to the local vet for a check up and to see what his bad skin condition was all about.

Following the vet visit, I had to find a solution as to where he could go, because I did not have the resources to help him in the way he needed.  I contacted my good friends in Athens, who have a dog pension.  I knew that they would be the best people to help GINO.  So a couple of days later, GINO was taken to Athens and here he was cared for.  Within 6 months, he went from being a dirty scabby dog, to a lovely healthy dog. But like all rescues, I needed to find a permanent loving home for him.  My searches led me to find a lovely adopter in the UK.  Preparations were then put in place to get him prepared for travel, he had all his vaccinations, rabies and passport prepared. Then thankfully the day came, he crossed the waters and joined his new adopter in the UK.  I flew with him from Athens and he was such a good boy throughout the whole journey.

In England, the collection point was Thurrock service station.  It was a horrible cold rainy day in November.   I met the adopter for the first time and he was so anxious to receive his doggy.  It was a wonderful re-union to see.   A stray rescue that finally now had a loving home and family.  This is the best part of any story where rescue work is concerned.  I get updates of GINO's progress and from being found as a scabby dog, he has become a healthy, loving beautiful dog.
